Stuck for something to do this weekend? The list of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest
of the country.
The new films out include: Semi-Pro, Untraceable, The Accidental Husband, Waz, The Bucket List and The Bank Job.
Daniel Craig debuts as James Bond in Casino Royale on DVD...
It took longer than I'd have liked to get round to watching this, the debut
for Daniel Craig in the role of the master spy, but this episode is more of a
return to the basics as he relies less on gadgets and more on creating a decent
bit of entertainment. Given that it comes from the director of Goldeneye,
this is also the best Bond since that movie, back in 1995.
'Bond 22', Quantum of Solace, hits UK cinemas this coming November.
A hot new band from Brooklyn, New York,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
tells us that they're a mix of the Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight and Magic Numbers
and that they could be America's next stadium rockers. Praise indeed.
Classic Chess action and much more on the Xbox 360...
Chess is a game that you can never tire off and in addition to a standard
single game, you can take your chess pieces online and tackle a number of
different puzzles. It's a fantastic experience.
They're the band of the moment, but are they all they're cracked to be
and does their music hold up to scrutiny?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
has his doubts.
Three episodes into the new spinoff from Life on Mars and the most
recent episode was, sadly, a bit of a duffer, but there's still plenty more
to come and this is a great interview from the leader of the pack, Philip
Glenister, who plays DCI Gene Hunt.
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the
past week, such as Grace Dent talking to Mitchell & Webb on the first one as
well as a kd lang interview, an Ashes to Ashes promo on Breakfast plus interviews
with Angela Thorne, Stuart Maconie, Dave Spikey, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Barrowman,
Spamalot's Nina Soderquist, Zammo McGuire & Mrs McClusky from Grange Hill,
GMTV interviews with Ringo Starr and Alan Carr and a number of interesting
Working Lunch snippets.
As in, the son of Anthony Perkins, but there's not a great deal of star
quality on this release, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
while some songs are accessible, others are too personal and self-indulgent.

Manchester Showcase Cinema

of the country.
The new films out include: Be Kind Rewind, Sharkwater, Black Water and Rambo.
Logan's back and Bitar's causing a problem yet again so you've got to sort
him out. However, that's only possible once you've got past the inherent problems
within this game such as the movement, controls and the graphics, so pretty
much all of it then...
What's so special about Duke Special on CD? Plenty...
Especially when it's a re-issue of a great album with a bonus 10-track live CD to
make it even better, from Northern Ireland's Peter Wilson. His music's been
featured on Radio 2 and he's even made an appearance on Later... With Jools
Holland.
It was a several medical injury that caused Robert Harrison to dream up the
concept of a double album in the form of the debut for this band, but while
he's a dead ringer for the voice of John Lennon, but is the musical style
more 'Love Me Do' or 'White Album'?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
lends an ear.
Rochdale's Will Tang has got his mojo working on CD...
Flying in the face of lesser journos, the man who knows his music,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
is onto a sure bet here with an artist who has found his own direction and
is taking things an interesting way.
Relive the Tron arcade experience on the Xbox 360...
A classic film, released just over 25 years ago, which also turned into a couple
of brilliant arcade games, Tron and Discs of Tron, and in this
review we take a look at the first of them.
Keep on your toes and don't fall apart like Flynn did... well, he got sucked
into the machine, but you know what I mean.
It's an album with 14 tracks but, as
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
confirms, it's interesting if you can find it worth sticking with, but there's
far too many stumbling blocks to get past on this release, even if she is
a gorgeous Scandinavian blonde.
For those who are sick of Five's fake-film effect on Neighbours and have given
up on the show altogether, like I have after 23 years of watching on BBC1,
here's Rachel Kinski... and not much else.
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the
past week, such as Ellen Page on the first one, a Rubik's cube-solving robot
on the latter and two women talking about the Ryanair 'schoolgirl' advert,
plus loads of classic GMTV clips including Penny Smith going back in time
"to her hey-day" and Fiona Philips saying that Andrew Castle likes going cruising...
Get carried away with the Ditchflowers for the weekend on CD...
Florida is the place to be for a band whose clever pop deserves to be heard
on this 12-track album and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
has plenty of good things to say about it.
Stuck for something to do this weekend? The list of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest
of the country.
The new films out include: All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and Jumper.
Grubby disappointment with Dirty Projectors on CD...
This album isn't what
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
would really call music and there's nothing on it that would trouble a daytime
radio playlist either, so has the man behind this band made a big mistake
leaving Yale University before graduating in order to pursue a career as a
singer/songwriter?
Pursuit Force 2 brings fantastic fun to the Sony PSP...
2006 saw an engaging title by the name of Pursuit Force appearing on
this handheld, which had you jumping from one vehicel to another, blasting
the bad guys and generally taking out the trash. Now, here's more of the same
and it's just as much fun.
Folk-hippies from Cornwall: Thistletown put out a debut CD...
Eight tracks on Thistletown's first album, the band of which
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
refers to as a West Country band of retros and while it's not perfect there's
still plenty to enjoy here.
Can Richard Gere pull off a big literary hoax on DVD...?
Released today:
Set in 1971, excelling in the lead role, Richard Gere plays Clifford Irving,
a man who claims he can bring the official autobiography of reclusive billionaire
Howard Hughes to an expectant publisher. He'll go through hell and high water
to get this in print, but the hardest part that comes first is that he's got
to make it all up!
But can this 10-track album reach the same dizzy heights as classic tunes
from the past such as Stepping Out, It's Different for Girls, I Won't
Let You Down or Is She Really Going Out With Him?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
isn't particularly convinced.
Richard Arnold has a comment to make on Andrea's outfit which leaves her
looking very pronounced...
There's been loads of great clips from Culture Show, GMTV and Breakfast uploaded in the
past week, such as Russell Brand, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton on the first one,
Naoko Mori and Eve Myles talking about Torchwood on the latter, and Keeley
Hawes popping out of her blouse on GMTV!
The release dates for singles go up until mid-March
with albums also until March 2008.
Updated cinema listings...

The new films out include: Definitely Maybe, National Treasure 2, Ugly Duckling and Me, No Country for Old Men and Juno.
Well, there's no need to dream as this CD, out now, is the sixth album from a
band who have been around for 13 years, but it's lucky for them as they're
an experimenter of many different musical styles and, according ti
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts,
it all seems to work.
In a world where everything costs too much, William H Macy is being driven
to distraction as nothing in his life makes sense any more, particularly since
he paid a visit to a fortune teller. With a fantastic cast including Mena
Suvari, Denise Richards, Julia Stiles and Joe Mantegna, this film is a must-see.
And it's his last release because it ended up being released just three
weeks before his death at the age of 51 in 1993, and out of the 21 tracks
there are far more hits and than misses and
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
classes the man as a Soulful master.
Chow Yun Fat reprises his Hard Boiled role in a new Xbox 360 game...
Playing the role of Inspector "Tequila" Yuen in John Woo's movie, the acclaimed
action director lent his name to this new third-person-shooter which sees you
playing Tequila and kicking the ass of the Triads and the Russian Mafia.
It's a load of CRASH!BANG!WALLOP! and it's brilliant!
Three lovelies who can sing is how
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
describes Songbirds, a new trio with a 10-track album and they're the darlings
of Radio 2 with one or two '60s-style tracks amongst the gems.
KT Tunstall on Never Mind the Buzzcocks on DVDfever's Youtube channel...
Taken from Series 21 programme 8, broadcast on January 10th, gorgeous songstress
KT Tunstall clearly had a great time on this show and here are all of her key
moments.
There's been loads of great clips from GMTV uploaded in the past week, such as
Gordon Brown having "huge bovine features" according to Fiona Philips, and
Richard Arnold telling us he needed a poo in Brazil!
Sadly, the "Mr Entertainment" of Saturday night TV in the '80s, Jeremy Beadle,
died on Wednesday due to pneumonia. He was only 59, and was also a radio
presenter and a tireless charity fundraiser.
Back in 1985, at the height of his fame in the "Game For A Laugh" days,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer, Elly Roberts
had the chance of interviewing him, and here's his experience...
The release dates for singles go up until mid-March
with albums also until March 2008.
