I was impressed with the clips I saw of this movie and how it transformed
a comic book onto the big screen, but can it sustain that momentum for the
entire two hours with the extensive cast that it has?
A year ago this legendary radio DJ died of a heart attack while on holiday
in Peru at the age of 65. He was one of the few DJs that saw the importance
of new and upcoming artists and would attempt to give as many as possible
that one chance to break into the big time.
This collection of 40 tracks presents just some of the music that might
never have been heard if it wasn't for him, brought to you by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts.
He's been recording for over 35 years and formed The Velvet Underground with
Lou Reed, but as is pointed out by
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
he's never yet had an album in the UK charts. Will this release make the
difference?
I never used to think there was anything worth getting up for on a Monday
morning until I found out, in this review from
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
that 9am was the time Jimi Hendrix finally got to perform his Woodstock set.

Rowetta: An X-Factor flop releases her new CD...
But despite only coming fourth,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
reckons this particular voice, who has sung with Inner City and The Happy
Mondays, is well worth a listen.
New Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder & Cream releases...
Combining three new reviews into one announcement from
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
he takes a look at the latest album from Stevie Wonder, a greatest hits
collection with remixes from Mariah Carey, and a new live DVD from Cream,
recorded from their gigs in May over four nights.

Is this Hitchhike worth thumbing a lift for on DVD...?
Over 25 years in development, the movie version of the classic book, TV series,
radio series and stage play finally emerged, and starred Martin Freeman,
Sam Rockwell, Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel & Bill Nighy.
However, was it worth the wait? And what would Douglas Adams make of it?
Just what the world needs - another Simply Red CD(!)...
Released this week:
There are a thousand things more annoying than Mick Hucknall, according
to one particular website, and it appears that, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
another Simply Red album is one of them.
David Cronenberg displays A History of Violence at the cinema...
Starring Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello & Ed Harris, what can David Cronenberg
bring to this tale when two hitmen turn up at Tom Stall's diner? Does he
go for the mainstream approach, or take the tough, adult and unusual path?
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Dan Owen
tells all.
According to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts,
this new double-CD easily surpasses two previous songbook collections
and it was released just in time to mark what would've been Lennon's
65th birthday last Sunday. Engage in many a timeless classic with this
new release.
And in the second of two album reviews online today,
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
continues with the debut release for a 21-year-old Irish songbird
who wrote these tracks not that long ago and who has been produced by
Stewart Levine, who's worked with the likes of Lionel Richie & Joe Cocker.

Chris Morris ('The Day Today'/'Brass Eye'/'Blue Jam'), co-written with ultracool TV columnist for
'The Guardian', Charlie Brooker.
Nathan Barley (Nicholas Burns), is 26. He's a webmaster, guerrilla filmmaker, screenwriter, DJ and in his

Farscape Season 4 (£99.99, Contender) is out today.
Well it had to end somewhere... and this was supposed to be it. The plotlines were collapsed in double
quick time to try to fit as much of the storyline into the last remaining shows: the producers had
cancelled any more series of the wackiest, most wonderful sci-fi show ever!
But still the fans clamoured and howled for more - they were incensed that their show had been taken from
them and their weekly fix of the 'Uncharted Territories' was to be no more...

In Kicking And Screaming (£19.99, Universal), released on November 21st,
funny man Will Ferrell's (OLD SCHOOL, ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND OF RON BURGUNDY) humorous man-child antics
meet actual kids on the soccer pitch. He plays vitamin salesman Phil Weston, a sensitive man easily capable
of both crying and sewing. Unfortunately for Phil, these qualities have never quite endeared him to his
tough-as-nails father, Buck (Robert Duvall) who will stop at nothing to one-up Phil.
He goes so far as benching Phil's 10-year-old son - his own grandson - on the youth soccer team he coaches.
Upon Phil's begging to get his son more playing time, Buck trades his grandson to the last-place team,
the Tigers. Not just any normal cellar-dwelling outfit, the Tigers feature a cast of loveable losers who
prefer eating worms and telling jokes to playing soccer.
When the Tigers' coach leaves, putting the season on the line, an inexperienced Phil steps in to helm
his son's new team. With help from Buck's neighbour and rival, real-life football coach Mike Ditka -
hilariously playing himself - the Tigers turn their season around. Fuelled by a raging caffeine habit,
Phil starts to overly obsess with beating Buck, losing sight of why he took the job in the first place -
to be a better dad to his own son. Director Jesse Dylan (AMERICAN WEDDING) is a natural for the story-line,
being famed musician Bob Dylan's son.
Farrell, for once, is content to play straight arrow to the crazy tykes in the first half of the film,
before he unleashes his trademark zaniness in the latter half. Those attributes alone, along with fun-loving
family themes, make KICKING & SCREAMING a treat for fans both young and old.
Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (£12.99, Fremantle) is out on October 31st.
Hamburg. Professor Lidenbrock (Kenneth More) buys a manuscript from a strange old man that describes
a mysterious journey - a map to the centre of the earth itself! With his niece, Glauben, and her
fiancé, Axel, they set off to Iceland, where they are joined by Professor Fredrikson and a guide, Hans.
Following the old man’s directions, they soon find an entrance in an inactive volcano, but after an
underground storm and earthquake, they fall into a deep chasm. While exploring their new surroundings,
they meet a mysterious character who offers them help. In his company they discover wonderful things...
an underground sea, a forest of gigantic mushrooms, pre-historic creatures, dinosaurs and a King
Kong-type gorilla!
But the group soon suspect that his motives may not be all they seem. Directed by Juan Piquer Simón.
Extras include: Original Theatrical Trailer.
Would I Lie To You / Would I Lie To You Again (£19.99, 4 Front Video) is out on October 31st.
Would I Lie to You?: Jobless, broke, and down and out in Paris, Eddie Vuibert (Richard Anconina) is
going nowhere fast. But when he comes to the aid of a fabric-seller in a street fracas, he is mistaken
for a Jew and finds his whole world turned upside down! Given a job and a home, Eddie begins to work
his way up through the company.
But the lie that got him where he is soon catches up with him, especially when he falls for the boss’
daughter, Sandra (Amira Casar). Dealing with religion, materialism, sexual indiscretions and the male
machismo, this is the hit comedy that took French cinemas by storm.
Would I Lie to You, Again?: After a deal goes horribly wrong with EuroDiscount, a massive chain
of downmarket department stores, the little Davids of Le Sentier find themselves fighting a Goliath...
and it’ll take all of their chutzpah to get out of this one! Meanwhile, the penniless Serge (Jose Garcia)
is mistaken for his wealthy cousin and becomes entangled with the beautiful Chochana (Elisa Tovati),
the pampered daughter of a wealthy furniture kingpin.
But when marriage is suggested, should Serge come clean or keep it up?
Fellini's Casanova (£19.99, Fremantle) is out on October 31st.
A film of rare visual daring and imagination in which each frame is meticulously and attentively designed,
Fellini’s Casanova is amongst Italian maestro Federico Fellini’s most sumptuous productions. In an
astonishing piece of screen acting, Donald Sutherland portrays Casanova in his waning days, travelling from
a bubonic-plagued Venice to a syphilitic London and a tubercular Germany and engaging in various amorous
and political adventures with an air of bored detachment.
Imbued with a romantic pessimism, the film debunks the myth of Casanova as a great lover and instead
presents him as an ordinary man swept along by extraordinary circumstances. Featuring a compelling and
complex score by Fellini’s longstanding collaborator Nina Rota, Fellini’s Casanova also boasts Oscar
winning costume designs by Danilo Donati.
Filmed entirely on the lavish soundstages of Rome's Cinecitta Studios, the film is also popularly viewed
as the director’s elegiac farewell to a bygone era of Italian cinema.
Extras include: 'Casanova, Fellini and Me' 46 minute interview with Donald Sutherland. 'The Magic
of Fellini' 53 min documentary. Photo Gallery.

Carole King takes you on a Living Room Tour on CD...
Getting back to basics, no it's not the Tory Party trying desperately to be
relevant again but 62-year-old Carole Klein, aka Carole King, with classics
like Pleasant Valley Sunday, It's Too Late and
It Might As Well Rain Until September, the latter of which makes
you wonder if she really came, not from New York but from Manchester(!)
This live double-CD review comes direct from
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts.
Stuck for something to do this weekend? The list of the films showing at
Manchester Showcase Cinema
can be found on this page, and won't differ much from what's on in the rest
of the country.
The new films released this week include: Serenity, Kinky Boots
and Oliver Twist
with reviews of the latter two now online.

DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts

to form.
Thankfully, this is not the Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner film, but a
new action/comedy with some cast members from the critically-acclaimed
Ong Bak, starting off with a hotel shootout that ends up with
a 4-way BMW airborne collision!
Some debut excellence from Sweet Billy Pilgrim on CD...
Released today:
Somewhere inbetween James Yorkston and Bright Eyes, this release feels like
an old friend who's just dropped by, according to
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Elly Roberts
who rather likes this debut album.
A new comedy starring Nick Frost, Robert Pugh and Chiwetel Ejiofor,
I have yet to see this but Nick Frost has made his name on TV and appeared
with his Spaced collaborators in
Shaun of the Dead
last year, so that's got to be a good start. See what
DVDfever.co.uk reviewer Helen Jerome
made of it.
Kinky Boots
is online and out at the cinema this Friday.
