Simply Red: Stay Simply Red: Stay (Album version: 3.05 / Radio mix: 2.56) (SimplyRed.com) By far the best track from Simply Red’s latest album of the same title. This urban soul-jazz infused delight oozes class throughout. The funky basslines lead the way for Hucknall to drench the song with melodies and harmonies – proving he’s still the ubermaster of blue-eyed soul. His heartfelt lyrics and singing are perfectly suited to the pace, style and emotion. Of the two versions, the album cut is better, though there’s little tampering on the radio mix, so it still works brilliantly. One of his best studio moments in a while.
