MOVIE NEWS

THEM

'Variety' reports that 'Universal Pictures' has acquired rights to the Jon Ronson (right) book Them, which will be used as the basis for a Mike White script to be directed by Edgar Wright (
Shaun Of The Dead).

Jack Black and Jack White will produce under their 'Universal'-based production company Black And White alongside Wright and Nira Park (TV's Spaced).

The book, an exploration of extremists, is described as a conspiracy comedy about one woman's journey to unmask the secret rulers of the world.

BATMAN BEGINS 2

Rumours are circulating that two actors are now in line to play The Joker in the next Batman movie from Christopher Nolan - namely British actor Paul Bettany (Wimbledon) and unknown Aussie actor Lachy Hulme.

THE PASSION OF THE CLERKS

Kevin Smith told 'TV Guide' that his Clerks sequel, Passion Of The Clerks, is about to get under way.

Smith: "We start shooting Oct 10th. It's a story about what happens to the angry young man once he turns 35. We've got all the same guys from the first film."

In related news, Smith also spoke of his long-time desire to film a new Fletch movie with Jason Lee in the Chevy Chase role, saying: "I'm so delighted Jason is getting the recognition he deserves. Maybe now I can make a Fletch film staring Jason - I've wanted to do that for five years."
